Remove the soundtrack before sharing the recording

A camera clip can contain a private conversation, unwanted music or microphone noise alongside useful footage. This tool creates a video with the soundtrack left out. It does not merely turn down the preview player.

Use the silent copy for a presentation, background footage or an edit that will receive new sound elsewhere. Keep the source recording if you might need its audio later. This page has no volume slider, music input or time range for selective muting.

Check whether the silent picture was copied or rebuilt

When the source video codec fits the output container, the tool copies the picture without re-encoding. That avoids a new compression pass over the frames. If it does not fit, conversion may rebuild the video using the browser’s codec support.

Read Picture under the result: it reports Original, not re-encoded or Re-encoded. A copied track keeps its existing visual quality, including any blur already present. Muting cannot improve focus, recover detail or guarantee identical quality when re-encoding is required.

The silent copy may use a different video container

Sound removal starts with a MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV video. A file’s extension describes its container, while the picture inside uses a codec. Both affect whether your browser can complete the rewrite.

WebM and Matroska sources are written as WebM; other readable sources are written as MP4. A MOV recording therefore returns an MP4 rather than another MOV. The output format is chosen automatically. Try the saved copy in the app where you intend to use it.

Less sound data does not guarantee a much smaller clip

Removing audio can reduce file size, but the picture may already take most of the space. A different container or a required re-encode can also change the result size. Compare the reported source and output sizes rather than expecting a fixed percentage reduction.

The duration and input-size checks apply to the full video. Output is assembled in browser memory, and completion time depends on the file, device and whether frames need rebuilding. If the clip exceeds a limit, prepare a shorter excerpt with Video Trimmer or use a computer. For deliberate size reduction, use Video Compressor.

Strip the sound where your personal recording already lives

The selected video is read and rewritten on your device. This processing path does not send the recording or its audio to a server. Loading the website and its processing code still requires network requests.

Removing the soundtrack needs a phone or desktop browser that supports the recording’s codecs. A compatible copy operation does not need to encode video, but an incompatible codec may need browser features the device lacks. If rewriting fails, follow the browser hint or try a more compatible source.

Choose silence separately from sound cleanup and sharper footage

Whole-track removal cannot preserve speech while deleting wind, a song or another speaker. If you need some of the sound, keep the original and use a sound editor suited to that job. Video to Audio is the separate tool for saving the existing soundtrack as an audio file.
