Convert PNG or JPG to SVG paths, not an embedded picture

A raster picture stores pixels. This converter follows regions of similar color and writes their outlines as filled SVG paths. The saved file contains traced geometry, not the original picture hidden inside an SVG wrapper.

That makes the outlines scalable and editable in vector software, but tracing is an approximation. It does not recover the original design file, identify fonts or reconstruct a damaged logo. Keep the source beside the trace so you can check spacing and shape.

Balance SVG color regions against curve detail

The Style choices are Logo / flat colors, Detailed, Black & white line art or Posterized; the starting style is Logo / flat colors. Flat artwork benefits from fewer color regions, while shaded illustrations may need more. Colors starts at 8 and applies to the color styles.

Raise Detail in Advanced when thin strokes disappear. Lower it when the trace follows unwanted specks or needs simpler curves. More colors and tighter outlines can produce more paths and a larger file. Check the result’s color count, shape count and file size after each pass.

Keep PNG transparency separate from white paper

Color tracing can retain a transparent background when enough of the working image is already clear. Tiny transparent areas and soft, partly transparent edges may change. A white background is a real color region and is not automatically removed by the color styles.

For dark handwriting or a drawing on light paper, the line-art style separates ink from paper and writes only black shapes. For a colored subject that needs isolating first, use the separate Background Remover. Inspect the SVG over a contrasting background before placing it in a layout.

Read tiny letters before trusting a large SVG

The engine traces a working image no larger than 1,000 pixels on its long side, then scales the paths to the source dimensions. A large width in the saved file therefore does not mean every source pixel was examined.

Tiny lettering, compression fringes and blurry edges can turn into uneven shapes. Start with clear artwork and compare enclosed spaces in letters, narrow gaps and small accents. Text becomes outlines rather than editable words; recreate precise lettering in a vector editor when the trace is not accurate enough.

Distinguish cut shapes from single-line pen paths

Line-art output gives you black filled shapes on a clear background. These can be a starting point for vinyl or stencil designs, but you still need to inspect the imported outlines and set the intended size in your cutting software.

A thick drawn line has an outline on either side. This converter follows those edges; it does not calculate a single path down the middle. If a pen or engraving job needs one centerline, prepare that path in a suitable vector editor. Machine compatibility and a clean cut are not guaranteed by the SVG extension alone.

Trace local artwork in a phone or computer browser

The browser reads the selected file, calculates the color regions and builds the SVG on your device. The tracing engine does not send the image to a server. A phone or tablet can use the same process when its browser supports the required features.

The website still needs to load its code and services. Large sources must be decoded before tracing, so memory and device speed still matter even with a smaller working image. If tracing fails, use a reduced copy of the logo or drawing, or retry the vector conversion in another current browser. There is no fixed completion time for every picture.

Trace the existing mark or develop new artwork first

Tracing starts from the design you provide. A photograph becomes patches of color, and a poor logo source remains an uncertain guide to its intended edges. Prefer the original vector artwork when it is available.
