Where the portrait smoothing is applied

You do not need to select skin areas first. The tool locates faces and builds a soft selection around facial skin and the neck below the jaw. It uses each face’s own skin color to refine that selection. Eyes, eyebrows, lips and nostrils have protected areas to reduce unwanted softening.

This is an automatic portrait adjustment with no brush for choosing a single spot. It does not search every exposed part of the body for skin. Check the beard, hairline and collar in the comparison, since an automatic selection can miss a boundary.

Keep pores visible while softening uneven patches

Start with Strength at 55 and Keep texture at 60. The first adjusts how strongly the smoothing blends into the photo. The second retains more of the fine detail already present in the skin.

If the cheeks look waxy, lower the smoothing amount and raise texture retention. Review the portrait at the size it will be displayed, then inspect the face closely. A small preview can hide softened pores or a smeared transition near the nose. Keep the original for another attempt.

Balance redness with freckles and natural color

Even tone moves selected skin colors toward their nearby average while retaining the brightness differences that describe the face. It can soften blotchy color, but it does not change the direction of the light or remove every bright reflection.

The tool cannot identify which marks you want to keep. Freckles, blush and small scars may soften along with blemishes. Turn off the tone adjustment and reduce smoothing when those details matter, then compare with the source. A raised spot or a deep expression line may remain visible.

Check each face in a smoothed group portrait

Each detected face gets its own skin selection, with the same controls applied across the photo. There is no per-person strength setting. Different lighting and face sizes can produce different amounts of visible change, so inspect everyone before saving.

A face that is tiny, obscured or hard to recognize may be skipped. If no suitable face can be processed, the tool reports that instead of applying a general blur. Try a clearer source with more of the face visible; repeatedly increasing smoothing will not fix failed detection.

Retouch a personal portrait in your browser

Face detection and smoothing run locally. The browser may download the model and processing code before it can edit, but the portrait is not uploaded for this operation. A slow connection can delay that first load; processing itself depends on the device.

Large source images can be reduced to fit the browser’s canvas limits. Saving also encodes a new image, so matching pixel dimensions would not prove the file is unchanged. Check the exported picture in the app where you plan to use it. There is no fixed completion time or universal maximum photo size promised here.

When the portrait needs detail added instead of softened

Use this smoother when a portrait already has useful texture and you want to soften unevenness. It blends existing pixels; it cannot recover the original pores from a face that has already been heavily airbrushed. Smoothing an already soft face again can lose more detail.

3. Inspect texture and facial edges

   Move the comparison slider across the cheeks, eyes and jaw. Reduce the effect if recognizable marks or fine texture have become too soft.
