Give the existing photograph a cartoon surface

Choose Comic, Painted or Soft toon under Style; the starting look is Comic. The treatments range from dark outlines and flat shading to brush-like strokes and lighter pastel color. They work across the whole picture, including its background.

The filter follows shapes already in the source. It has no prompt box, character generator or face reshaping control. A recognizable selfie can become a graphic avatar, but a distant face may lose small features as texture is simplified.

Balance ink lines against simplified shading

Start Detail at 50. Lower it for broader shapes and fewer lines; raise it for finer strokes and more shading detail. This control changes the treatment, not the output dimensions.

If a face looks too busy, reduce the setting and compare the eyes, mouth and hairline again. Busy foliage or patterned clothing can still leave strong edges. The tool tries to suppress lines in soft backgrounds, but it cannot decide which visible objects matter to your composition.

Frame faces and pets before flattening texture

Use a clear picture with the subject large enough to recognize. A close portrait, pet photo or distinct building gives the filters stronger shapes to follow. A dark or blurred source does not gain missing detail from cartoonizing.

For a profile picture, crop the source in the separate Image Cropper before applying the effect. Check the cartoon at the small size where the avatar will appear. For scenery, look at branches, rooflines and signs: the same treatment that simplifies a face can also simplify those details.

Check cartoon dimensions before making a print

Large sources are reduced before the effect is applied. The long edge is capped at 2048 pixels, and browser limits may reduce it further. The result reports its dimensions so you can judge whether it suits a card, post or print.

The download is a raster picture, not editable vector paths or separate ink and color layers. Keep the original for later editing. An image that looks crisp in a small preview can show softened lettering or missing texture when viewed closely.

Process the cartoon beside the original on your device

The browser reads your image and calculates the effect locally. There is no cartoon model to fetch and no photo upload in this processing path. Before simplifying the shading, your phone, tablet or desktop browser must decode the original picture in memory.

The cartoon filter runs locally, but its page code and website services still use a connection. An image decoder may also need to load for a phone photo. If cartoonizing a large picture fails, preserve the original and retry the effect on a reduced version.

Choose between a filtered photo and a redrawn scene

Use this effect when the existing pose, framing and objects should guide the result. It changes their visual texture and shading. It cannot invent a different pose, exaggerate facial proportions or reproduce a particular illustrator’s drawing.
