Give the subject a different backdrop color

Choose from White, Black, Custom color or Gradient in Background; the starting choice is White. To convert a complex background to a single color, choose a solid fill and run the automatic subject selection. You do not need to trace its outline before running the change.

For a custom shade, use the swatches or open the Color picker. This is useful for a portrait, a product card or a set of images that need the same backdrop. Keep the color choice consistent, then review each subject’s outline separately.

Build a shaded backdrop from one chosen color

The gradient uses your chosen color to make lighter and darker areas behind the subject. It does not offer separate endpoint or direction controls. Choose a solid fill when you need a uniform field of color.

Enable Soft shadow if the subject needs a little separation from its new surroundings. This adds a blurred, offset shadow based on the detected silhouette. It does not preserve the original floor shadow or recreate the lighting of a real studio.

Inspect the new color along hair and product edges

Changing a pale background to a dark one can expose a leftover fringe. The engine refines the selection and reduces old backdrop color around its edges, then blends the subject into the new fill. Fine hair, fur and narrow gaps can still need attention.

Edge cleanup can alter partly selected pixels, so this is not a promise to preserve every subject color exactly. Check glass, reflective surfaces and translucent fabric carefully. The tool has no manual selection brush for repairing those regions.

The saved backdrop becomes part of the picture

The result is a flattened, opaque photo. The subject and its new background are saved together, with no separate layer to recolor later. Its file type may differ from the image you added, and the export uses lossy compression. Keep the original for future changes.

Large inputs can be reduced to fit the device’s canvas limits. A large saved picture also does not guarantee that each fine edge was detected at full size. Compare the result at the size you intend to display it.

Change the backdrop where your photo is stored

Your picture is read and processed on your device. The browser downloads the subject model and attempts to cache it for later use. A first run can therefore include loading time as well as the color change itself.

A dedicated graphics card is not required, but the browser must support the processing features. If an older phone cannot finish the background replacement, use a reduced picture or run the color change in a current desktop browser. Changing the fill on your device still involves website network requests as well as the subject-model download.

Choose between a colored fill and a new setting
