Turn a PNG site asset into a WebP copy

Use this converter when you already have a PNG and want a WebP version for a website. It reads the picture and writes a new image file. Renaming a filename alone does not perform that conversion.

The page accepts PNG or also JPG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF. Its output is fixed to WebP, and the conversion keeps the decoded width and height. Keep the PNG as your source, then try the new copy in the page or store where it will appear.

Keep transparent PNG edges clear in WebP

The WebP path keeps transparent areas instead of putting a white rectangle behind the picture. That makes it useful for an existing logo, product cutout or interface graphic that sits over a colored page. Partial transparency can remain around soft shadows and smoothed edges.

Check the saved WebP on both a light and a dark background. Conversion does not remove a background that was already painted into the PNG. A visible checkerboard inside the source is image content, not transparency that this tool can recover.

Choose WebP quality without assuming a smaller file

For the WebP trial, leave Quality at 92%. Lower it and compare small lettering, narrow lines and textured areas. This slider controls encoding quality; it is not a requested percentage reduction in bytes.

Some PNGs, especially simple graphics with few colors, already store efficiently. A WebP copy can be larger. Compare the actual files and keep the PNG if conversion offers no useful saving. The highest quality setting is not an explicit lossless mode, so keep the original for pixel-exact artwork.

Encode WebP locally, including the Safari fallback

The image is decoded and encoded on your device. Your PNG is not uploaded for this conversion. The page still loads code over the network, and a browser that cannot encode WebP itself may need to load an additional codec.

The tool checks the returned file type. If the browser produces a PNG instead of WebP, the local codec writes the WebP result. Phones and computers still need enough memory for the decoded picture; a very large PNG can fail even when its compressed file looks small.

Keep the PNG master for notes and future exports

The converter builds a new file from decoded pixels. It does not copy embedded PNG text notes, source metadata or an animation sequence into the result. Keep the original if those details matter to your workflow.

Check the WebP in its destination before publishing

Open the converted asset in the site, editor or uploader that will use it. Check the crop, lettering and transparent edges there. If that destination requires PNG, retain the original rather than changing the WebP filename to disguise its format.
