Build the joke around a picture you already have

Start with a pet photo, a reaction shot or a screenshot that makes sense to the people reading it. This maker uses your own picture rather than a searchable meme-template library. A template saved on your device can be used as the source too.

Choose a frame with some quiet space above and below the subject. The captions sit over the photograph, so a face close to an edge can end up under the lettering. The tool does not add an empty caption strip outside the picture.

Split the setup and punchline between the caption boxes

Put the context in Top text and the payoff in Bottom text. Either box can be empty; at least one needs some text. Replace the example words before making your result.

Keep the wording short enough to read with the picture. The two captions are fitted separately, so a long setup can appear smaller than a short punchline. If a caption crowds the subject, trim the sentence and make the meme again.

Choose the lettering while keeping the outlined meme look

The Font setting offers Classic meme or Clean sans, with Classic meme selected initially. Both choices render white capital letters with a black outline. Switching the typeface does not switch off uppercase or change the caption colors.

The classic style tries a condensed display font available to the browser and uses a fallback when necessary. Letter shapes and line breaks can therefore differ between devices. Check the actual result if you are trying to match an older meme.

Why a longer punchline wraps or shrinks

The fitter measures each caption and reduces its lettering to fit the available width and height. It tries to keep words together and aims for a few lines. A very long word may split across rows, and unusual image shapes can still make a caption crowded.

Manual line breaks are treated as spaces. There is no control for dragging a caption, setting its exact size or adding another text box. For lowercase lettering, colors or other caption treatments, use the separate Add Text to Photo tool.

Check the meme as a saved picture, not an editable draft

The result is a still image with the captions drawn into it. It contains no separate text layers, and the saved file cannot recover the pixels hidden beneath the letters. Keep the uncaptioned source if you want to try another joke later.

Captioning does not stretch, sharpen or deliberately blur the photo. Large sources may be reduced to fit the browser’s canvas limits, and saving re-encodes the picture.
