Did you know? Curved image edges facts
For a 1200 × 800 picture, each percentage point of radius represents 8 pixels of the shorter side. The same percentage gives a larger pixel radius on a larger source.
A border measuring 20 pixels on each side adds 40 pixels to both dimensions. A 1200 × 800 source then occupies a 1240 × 840 canvas, if the device can hold it.
Rounding uses 1 source photograph and a geometric mask. It creates no new scene; the linked Pro Product Shot Maker can create a product photography setting from an image.

Set the curve by the picture’s shorter side
Radius is a percentage of the shorter side, not a fixed number of pixels. Its starting value is 8%. Raise it for a deeper curve or lower it when lettering sits close to a corner.
Images with different dimensions can share the same percentage while using different pixel radii. Compare the result at its intended display size. Rounding cuts away corner detail, so keep the original if that detail may be needed later.
Choose circular arcs or an app-icon curve
Corner style offers Round or Smooth (app icon). The default, Round, follows circular arcs. The other style uses a squircle-like curve that stays fuller near the corners and eases into the straight edges.
The styles do not trace the same outline at a matching radius. Try both on the same source before choosing a shape for a card or icon mockup. This is an image treatment, not a guarantee that the artwork meets an app store’s icon requirements.
Curve the upper edge while keeping the base square
In Advanced, Which corners offers All four, Top two or Bottom two. Rounding the upper pair can suit an image placed above a caption block. Rounding the lower pair leaves a straight edge at the top.
The selected corners share one radius and one curve style. There is no separate value for each corner and no diagonal-pair selection. For those shapes, use an editor with individual corner controls.
Why a curved picture still has rectangular bounds
The saved picture remains a rectangular grid of pixels. Rounding makes the pixels outside the curve transparent; it does not give the file a curved physical boundary. An editor can therefore show a rectangular selection box around a correctly rounded image.
Use the saved file in your layout and put a contrasting color behind it to check the corners. A viewer may display transparent areas on white or black. Taking a screenshot of the preview instead captures whatever background was visible there.
Let the outline grow beyond the rounded photo
Raise Border to add an outside edge, then choose Border color. Its starting value is 0%, so the initial result has no added frame. The border follows the chosen corner shape and expands the canvas instead of drawing over the photo.
Without a border, rounding keeps the working image dimensions. Very large files can be reduced when they exceed the device’s canvas limits, and adding a border can also trigger that limit. Check the result’s resolution before placing it in a layout that needs exact dimensions.

How do I round the corners of a photo?
Choose the photo, set Radius and start processing. Check that the curve leaves important details visible. You can also change Corner style before running another version.
What does the corner radius percentage mean?
It is measured against the shorter image side. A wider banner and a square photo can therefore use the same percentage without having the same radius in pixels. The control does not accept a separate pixel value.
Can I make squircle corners for an app icon?
Yes. In Corner style, the app-icon option uses a fuller curve than a circular arc. It shapes the supplied artwork but does not generate a platform-specific icon package.
Can I round only the top corners and leave the bottom square?
Yes. Open Which corners in Advanced and select the upper pair. The lower pair stays square; choose the lower pair instead when the straight edge needs to sit at the top.
Can each corner have a different radius?
No. The available corner groups share the same radius. This tool cannot give each corner its own value or select only one corner.
Why is the saved image still a rectangle?
The canvas still has a width and height. Empty corner pixels provide the rounded appearance inside that rectangle. A rectangular selection outline in another app does not mean the rounding failed.
Why do the corners look white instead of transparent?
Your viewer may be showing empty pixels against white. Place the saved result over a dark layer to check. If a later editor flattened the picture onto white, use the original rounded result again and preserve transparency when exporting.
Which input formats work, and why does the output type change?
Apply curved corners to a JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC image. The engine always exports a lossless image type that stores transparency, so the saved extension may differ from the source. There is no output-format selector here.
Does rounding change the image size?
With no border, the result matches the working picture dimensions. A border adds space on every side. Device limits can reduce a large source or expanded canvas, so read the resolution shown with the result rather than assuming it matches the original.
Can a rounded border cover the edge of my photo?
The added border sits outside the photo. Increasing its width grows the canvas. The corner mask itself still removes the picture detail outside the chosen curve.
Is rounding corners the same as a circle crop?
Only a square source with circular arcs, every corner selected and the largest radius becomes a circle. A rectangle becomes a pill shape under those settings. Use Profile Picture Maker for the separate portrait-cropping workflow.
Will the curved edges look jagged?
The engine uses a mask with softened edge pixels to reduce stair-step outlines. A tiny source can still look rough when enlarged elsewhere. Inspect it at the display size you intend to use.
